Quilts of Valor at Wilson High School!

Quilts of Valor
Today was a great day! We had so much fun making quilts and doing something great for the soldiers who have been serving our country! Over 80 kids (and probably close to 100) came out to help sew and put together quilts.
Some...this was their first quilt!

They had little or no sewing experience, and wow!!! I am just amazed at how much they did! Most of the stars were already put together, but the kids sewed them into quilt tops. Aren't they wonderful?

Check out their website...quilts of valor

Their goal was 60 quilts...but, I think it may have been more that they made today!

Woodrow Wilson High School

Woodrow Wilson Classical High School is a secondary school in Long Beach, California, USA.
Wilson High School, in the Long Beach Unified School District, opened in 1925 as the second school in the city (after Long Beach Polytechnic High School). In 2005 Wilson High School was recognized as a California Distinguished School for the second time. Wilson also is home to the Distinguished Scholars program which offers accelerated, honors, and many AP classes. Wilson High School is extremely diverse in race and economic backrounds.
Wilson is one of the few public high schools in the United States that requires a school uniform (one other high school, and all primary schools in the Long Beach Unified School District require school uniforms). The uniform is khaki pants, skirts or shorts, with either white or burgundy collared shirts. [1]. The school colors are cardinal and gold, and the school mascot is the Bruin.
The Wilson Bruins are widely known for their outstanding water polo and swim teams (with high crossover between the two teams). The swim team has been undefeated Moore League Champions for 36 years (as of 2008). Bruin Waterpolo held the Moore League for 18 years straight (1988-2005), winning the league 27 out of the last 30 years. The team has won the Div. 1 CIF title 11 times and Mythical State Title three times.
Wilson's Soccer, Tennis, Badminton, and Golf teams are also consistently among the top teams in the Moore League and in CIF titles.
Famous Athletes from Long Beach Wilson
At the age of 18, Wilson water polo sensation Tony Azevedo became the youngest Olympic water polo player in U.S. history. He made the national team at the age of 16 and was seven years younger than the average age of his teammates on the 2000 Olympic team. Three young athletes have emerged as their sport's finest young stars, Azevedo, former Wilson volleyball standout Cynthia Barboza and Wilson swimmer Jessica Hardy. Before there was world record holder Hardy, there was Susie Atwood setting world records at the age of 16. In golf, Baugh won her national title at 16, and Marlene Bauer Hagge turned pro at 15, setting the stage for the gaggle of young girls who have won CIF titles and have pro careers looming. Wilson's Bobby Grich, also in the Hall of Fame for Baseball. 1996-97 Kinshasa Davis Woodrow Wilson/Long Beach, CA USC Grad. is a ALL-TIME GATORADE NATIONAL GIRLS TRACK & FIELD ATHLETE OF THE YEAR HONOREE.
