Baccaluareate June 13, 2010

They came in as the orchestra played Pomp and Circumstance Op. 39 No. 4 in G by Edward Elgar and then sang the National Athem... and as the words were coming out of my mouth, my eyes started to tear up. I was thinking of patriotic images of soldiers who are fighting for our freedom, and for my daughter to graduate from high school. WHAT a thought! I think I am just being sentimental, but I think I heard people cracking their voices as they were singing, so maybe I wasn't the only one...
Co-Principals Lew Kerns and Sandy Blazer came out and congratulated the Class of 2010. It was a great way to start!
The orchestra played "Over the Rainbow" and I don't think I have heard a better rendition, it was smooth and sweet...!
Theresa Ly, gave a speech on life via facebook..and what picture is on your profile...what will be on your profile next thursday, next week, next year, 5 years, 10 years.....
Blessing of the CLASS of 2010

Jersey Girl
Wilson's Basketball banquet was on Wed March 31, and we had a great time! This was by far the best awards dinner we've ever had!
We decided to ask for donations for drawings to help raise money for the program, and one of the donations came from the LA SPARKS!
Aminah Mills, who represents the Sparks, came and presented the jersy of DeLisha Milton Jones, (power forward) for the Sparks!
Tori won the drawing!
What a great day!

Game of her life!
Senior Night was February 11, and it became a very special night for Tori. She got to play in her first game. Even though it was the last home game of the season, and they were playing Lakewood, Tori got to play. Wilson beat their team last time they played, and at the last 4 minutes of the game, Byron put Tori in...
Tori told me at the beginning of the season, that she didn't want to play. She said she didn't care. I kept telling her that even if she got to play for 1 minute, to go in and make her debut. So....she ran in, to a cheering crowd. It was wonderful that everyone was cheering for her. She played her defense, and I could tell she was holding back. She was scared, and her knee was sore.
But, She played her best defense that she could, and then as they ran down on offense, she was tossed the ball. She poised, and I cringed....she shot...and it went SWOOSH! She shot a 3 pointer! The crowd went CRAZY! Everyone was cheering! It was awesome!
Now..doesn't that sound like a dream that you wish you could play over and over because the reality was that it was a dream, and the reality was, that you missed the shot?
This was reality...and it was Tori's. I am so proud of her...she came off the court at the end of the game, and afterwards, she told me, that she was so glad she got to play...

What a year it has been........
On October 30, 2009, a young girl, Melody Ross was innocently shot while she waited with many people to cross the street.
She was an innocent bystander.
You hear about things like that on the news, but never realize what INNOCENT bystander really means.....When it actually gets this close to you, you feel the pain and the loss. It brings it so close to you that you can't help but feel pain for the family and friends.......This was a tribute to Melody. She wasn't someone we knew, but she was quickly a friend after friday's football game. Yes, it was after the Wilson Homecoming game against Poly. It was a loss of a game, but it became a loss for the school, the district and the city as a whole and then affected more than just our city. Long Beach is one of the largest cities within the Los Angeles county, besides Los Angeles.....
It has it's problems, but it does have it's blessings...
This was taken on November 4, Wednesday. There was a candlelight vigil for Melody...
The football team was all there in uniform...

The kids and adults from Wilson and other schools, Lakewood, Poly, Millikan, Cabrillo, and Jordan, came...to celebrate the life of a young lady who has, touched others beyond what she did in life, she did in death....
